Monthly Insider Guide

April in Fresno

Spring peaks. The best month to be outside before the heat.

April Weather

75°F / 49°F

Spring at its best. Mid 70s afternoons, cool mornings, and the occasional warm day into the 80s. Comfortable from dawn to dusk before the summer heat sets in.

April is the best month of the year to be outside in Fresno. Afternoons sit in the mid 70s, the foothills are green, and the heat that defines the valley from June on has not arrived yet. The wildflowers are out, the farmers markets are filling back up, and Triple-A baseball is underway downtown. Late April brings the Clovis Rodeo, the biggest regional event of the spring. Use the whole day, because May starts warming up fast.

Clovis Rodeo and Spring Events

Late April is the busiest stretch of the Fresno spring calendar. The Clovis Rodeo anchors it, with festivals and free events filling the rest of the month.

Clovis Rodeo

Clovis Rodeo Grounds, Old Town Clovis

The Clovis Rodeo has run since 1914 and is the biggest regional event of the spring, held over a weekend in late April at the Clovis Rodeo Grounds in Old Town Clovis. It is a full professional rodeo with bull riding, roping, and barrel racing, plus a parade through Old Town and a carnival. The grounds are walkable from the Old Town shops and restaurants.

Insider Tip

Old Town Clovis fills up and parking goes fast on rodeo weekend. Park a few blocks out and walk in, and combine the rodeo with lunch at one of the Pollasky Avenue spots.

Fresno State Vintage Days

Fresno State campus, Shaw and Cedar, Fresno

Vintage Days is a free festival on the Fresno State campus, usually held over a weekend in April. It has been a campus tradition for decades, with craft and food booths, live music, and a run. It is an easy, low-cost outing that draws students and families from across the area.

ArtHop

Tower District and Downtown Fresno

ArtHop is the free art walk held on the first Thursday of every month, centered in the Tower District and downtown. Galleries and studios open in the evening and the Tower restaurants stay busy. April evenings are mild, so the walking part is comfortable without the summer heat.

Grizzlies Baseball

Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park

Chukchansi Park, 1800 Tulare St, Fresno

Insider Tip

The cheap seats on the grass berm and the upper deck are fine for a casual night, and April evenings can get cool after sunset, so bring a layer.
