MIGUEL REYES ELITE/FUN 5K Run/Walk
The Miguel Reyes Elite/Open 5K hands out over $18,000 in cash awards, which makes it one of the most competitive road races in the Central Valley. The 11th running is Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 7:00 AM, starting from the Mountain View Shelter at Woodward Park, 7775 N Friant Rd in north Fresno. Entry is $49.50, dropping to $38.50 for middle school, high school, and college students, with both prices rising after July 3. The race honors Miguel Reyes, a Fresno runner who died in 2015, and is organized each year by his family, coworkers, and friends.
The 5K runs on a CIF high school cross-country certified course, the same type of course used for sanctioned prep meets. Past fields have included Olympians, and the event uses chip timing.
Awards and Prizes
The open division pays the top five finishers, men and women: $2,000 for first, $1,500 for second, $1,000 for third, $850 for fourth, and $500 for fifth. There are separate cash purses for Masters (40-49), Grand Masters (50-59), and Seniors (60-69), plus a fastest-team competition that pays the top three teams. Bonuses stack on top: $500 to the first runner past the mile mark, $1,000 for the first man under 14:00 and first woman under 16:00, and $2,000 for breaking the course records of 14:06 and 16:05. Age-group winners outside the cash divisions receive trophies, and there are Athena and Clydesdale categories.
Post-Race and Kids
Every runner gets a dri-fit singlet and a unique finisher's medal. After the race there are free tacos, aguas frescas, and ice cream, along with music and raffles. Free kids' races run after the main event, starting at 8:00 AM for ages 7 to 10 over 400 meters, with shorter distances for younger kids.
The deep prize money draws elite and college runners, but the open registration, family categories, and free kids' races keep it a community event in memory of a local runner.
